One of the features of being one of Navi’s passengers is a nifty psychic link with another passenger. Since the Navigator is an empathic being, it draws strength from the emotional bonds of its passengers. Characters will be assigned to pairs (or potentially a group of three, but no more than three), and paired characters will recognize each other by their glyphs' behavior (see FAQ for details). ICly, the pairings are made by the Navigator, based on what it's able to sense about its passengers; OOCly, this is done by the mod team with player input.
Characters from the same canon will not be paired, either temporarily or permanently. Temporary pairings will be made every other month, and are a good way to test out the waters with character compatibility. CR doesn't necessarily develop immediately, and part of the aim of this game is to encourage character development through these partnership bonds. So what may seem like an oil-and-water pairing can work out to be extremely emotionally fulfilling with some effort. Everybody wins!

Pairing Information: Character rundown:
Alex Reagan is a plucky, driven, Canadian-born investigative journalist for the fictional equivalent of NPR, Pacific Northwest Stories. Her personal podcast, The Black Tapes starts as a show based around interesting people doing interesting things and then dives into the world of the paranormal and the nature of belief. Playing the agnostic believer to the devout skeptic, Alex dives into the world of demons, cults, sacred geometry, horrifying children and the possible end of the world--which may be her fault. Oops.
Obsessive and driven in nature, Alex is also empathetic to a fault despite the fact that her moral code may be loose and flexible (at best) at times. Driven by the need to Know, Alex Reagan never met a bad decision she didn't like, has zero sense of self preservation and sense of determination that is rather that of a three year old. Lack of sleep is a distinct problem for Alex, especially at this canon point, and she has a complete fear of demons, for kind of obvious reasons. But Alex is nice despite all of the above (which kind of makes the above worse but) and she's someone who will determinedly friend characters. Yeah, she's that guy.
Player wants: Character pairing compatibility totally isn't something I'm worried about Alex would definitely doggedly make it work. Due to her nature and specifically the last two years, Alex has a +30 to dealing with stubborn assholes who hurt her so.
Goals: For Alex to meet more people than herself and realize that there are other worlds out there. I'd say for her to develop a sense of self preservation or sleep, but let's be honest here if either of those ever happened it'd be drastically ooc.

Pairing Information: Simply put, Murmur's an angel. Formerly fallen, recently redeemed. Suffice it to say he's been through Hell, quite literally, as well as the figurative sense. He's also an exceptionally powerful Seer, though highly secretive of all of the above. Hopefully anyone in his head can deal with an extraordinarily alien intellect because being bound to this Celestial scholar will likely be quite a change from other mortal beings. The quick and dirty rundown is he sacrificed his Ward to fall in order to place himself in a position to prevent all of Creation from being destroyed. Ultimately sacrificing absolutely everything to see his duty to completion.
He is reserved, quiet, and fairly serious. Though there's a bit of an underlying impulsive, rebellious current he doesn't often display outwardly but instead comes out in subtle, sneaky forms. Like finding the best way to bend the rules to his benefit, so to speak. As for more compatible or less I don't have a strong preference, but more compatible might work better with my general goal of letting him learn how to have and process emotions again. As well as form meaningful bonds with other creatures. He's been effectively on his own for so long the concept of "friends" is painfully foreign to him.
That and it's fun to watch him squirm with discomfort upon realizing he actually cares.

Pairing Information: Richard is a jerk motivated by scientific interest and pursuit. He's built a wall around a soft center that is motivated by trauma - specifically the disappearance of his wife. Blamed for her murder, he's built a shell around himself. At his canon point he's focused wholly on manipulating Alex Reagan and using her show to further his scientific agenda. He believes he's been stalked for years by an unknown group of people. An enigma and a mystery, he won't open up easy save to Alex.
Things that trigger him: nothing that he'll admit to.
Things that will help him to loosen up: Very little.
Calm and reserved, he'll balance out anyone who is loud and obnoxious easily. Just ask Alex.

Pairing Information: This little murder hobo, formerly long-term resident of a psychiatric hospital thinks he's the fucking Cheshire Cat or in the Borne Identity. He can yeet himself fully or partially all over the damn place and he will do so indiscriminately, while also reading your mind because what are manners. Fortunately he reserves his murder for cultists, so everyone on board (except for Strand) are probably mostly safe.

But more seriously he's a kid whose parents summoned demons to train him to help bring about the end of the world as you know it, and he was somewhat going along with that until he met a certain someone that reminded him sunsets were awesome. So now he's trying to be a hero. A murder hero.

Pairing Information: Senku was an ordinary genius teenager until one day some entity from above petrified all of humanity and since he's broken free some 3719 years later, he's been playing real life Civilization, doing a speedrun from Stone Age to Modern Age as fast as he can technologically speaking. Extremely hyperfocused on scientific persuits, Senku has a mastery on STEM subjects and a few other varied skills he either found interesting or learned because of other people. All of this knowledge has come in handy, especially his focus on medicine his early teen years, and the practical has come with hard work and serious trial and error. He was vying to be an astronaut.
Emotionally, Senku is incredibly even and makes an excellent psychic rock. It isn't that he doesn't feel emotions, he merely doesn't act on them. He sees anger as a waste of time. Everything that comes with emotional expression is a distraction from whatever it is he's working on.
He's a workaholic, constantly diving into study or new projects because he does have an energy of someone who cannot sit still and do nothing if they tried, and he will do this from morning until night.
Partners will learn that touching or grabbing him will not be welcome. I'm open to everything, bring it on!

Pairing Information: Prompto grew up in a relatively ordinary neighbourhood in Insomnia. All he knew was that he'd been adopted. His parents did not care much for him and ultimately made themselves scarce in his life when he was still in grade school. While Prompto took care of himself, he did not do so optimally and he was a very heavyset kid, due to not knowing how to cook and eating nothing but takeout. Due to crippling social anxiety, he could barely speak to his classmates, let alone anyone else. A chance encounter with Lady Lunafreya's messenger had her asking him to befriend Noctis. His first attempt went poorly so he dug deep in his determination and changed everything about himself - he lost weight, he got contacts, he covered up his freckles and attempted to blend in and be more outgoing to mixed results.
The five years he spent with Noctis were by far the best years of his life. He enlisted as a Crownsguard to the prince and graduated in time to escort him out of Insomnia. During their horribly fated journey, he was kidnapped and tortured by the enemy, discovered he was a stolen clone/experiment and once Noctis was gone, he was a member of the trio left to pick up the pieces. He's spent ten years without seeing the sun rise, fighting daemons day in and day out to protect the citizens of Lucis.
Despite the fact that there is all of this darkness in his history, he's the optimistic mood lifter of the group, preferring not to dwell on the negative, lest it drag him under.

Pairing Information:
Ienzo is patient, forgiving, friendly, intelligent, and will work himself to the bone in order to help others and atone for his past sins.
What are those past sins? Well, when he was ten years old - yes - he was one of the scientists - yes, I know - involved in a research project that not only experimented on people, but ended up destroying his world.
That turned him into a Nobody - a version of himself that (initially) was entirely emotionless. This version of him, Zexion, was cold, aloof, manipulative, and cruel. There were parts of Ienzo in there - he was the one who would teach other Nobodies in their group how to use technology. But he would twist around their opponents' perceptions to try to evoke despair, and thought nothing of their goals to destroy more worlds.
Ienzo carries a good deal of guilt about that time, and won't be willing to discuss it. He'll tell anyone who asks that the best way is to keep moving forward, to focus on the good one can do for the world. He will steer away from or shut down conversations that might hint he wasn't at fault for what occurred.
Fortunately for anyone paired with him, they'll likely just think he's a nerd who works too much and sleeps too little. Nothing deep to see here, no sir!

Pairing Information: Little is known about Demyx prior to the time he was a Nobody, including to Demyx himself. He's found out he has some connection to the heroes of the past - whatever that means. He was not recruited normally, but subjugated from a different place and/or time, his name and memories were taken from him and he was forced to work for Xehanort's flavour of the week.
That didn't bother him so much. No, really, he's always been incredibly easy going and although he disliked the work and certainly didn't want to do some things he did, he still did them. The amount of time spent as a Nobody is also unclear, but is likely at the higher end of the missing decade, rather than the lower end. He's a goofy outcast and always has been, preferring to be a lone wolf despite the bright smile and charming, friendly demeanor when engaged.
He reached his breaking point when he was not set free by the destruction of himself and Kingdom Hearts, but further trapped by whatever Xehanort was running the thing and was completely offended that they wouldn't let him leave and live his life, nor would they give him anything to do. He became a reserve member of the real Organization XIII.
So, Demyx took his sitar and walked into the light. He played double agent for awhile, and since he wasn't expected to fight for their side, he could sneak around, be covert and involve himself in being quite instrumental to the light's success.
He finds himself at a crossroads, unsure what the future holds or even what direction he should take.

Noctis, before joining this little space-faring crew, just woke up from a ten-year magic coma to meet his best friends and chosen family one final time, before willingly sacrificing himself so that his planet could be saved from eternal darkness.
So, that's a lot.
He wishes he could've lived a more chill life. His hobbies used to include video games, fishing (boy he loves fishing), watching lame movies with his friends, and cosplay. Noctis is a giant nerd at heart, and growing up, always resented the heavy burden being the crown prince of Lucis placed on his shoulders.
Noctis hated watching his father slowly die before his eyes using the Ring to protect the city, and thought that too would be his fate one day. The true nature of the prophesy he was born into was hidden from him.
But by now, he's accepted his fate, and - always willing to help others, to the point of accepting ridiculous side quests - would probably do something as grand again, if it meant saving so many lives.
It breaks his heart every time to leave his friends behind, but it'll take some doing to convince him to consider himself for once. That the time for him to take on the burdens of the world is over.

• John has some serious anger and trauma from his home world. Mainly death and abuse related, as well as supernatural horror. He's not a happy dude, he's secretive and guarded, and he's not very likely to open up or be cooperative.
• He can open up for the right people, but it takes time or the right sort of efforts. He's very untrusting of others, and even with people he trusts or likes he feels it's better to keep them in the dark for their own safety.
• Once someone's in his good graces they usually stay that way, though. So he does better working with people who are patient enough or stubborn enough to not give up on him or let him push them away.

Pairing Information: Marcus is a ex-criminal turned into a terminator. Basically a tough guy with a heart of gold. His life is extremely tramatic and he opens to very few people he trusts. If you get to know him, he will go over the top for you.

Gen is a liar. He's all flash and glitter and glam to keep people from looking in too closely, to see his soft and squishy heart, to understand his real motives. He does this to protect himself, of course - he's learned before he reached adulthood that being vulnerable meant one got hurt.
What lies he needs to tell depends on the person, of course. Some people might need to think he's ruthless, when he doesn't actually want to hurt anyone. Some people might need to think he's an airheaded performer, when he's actually incredibly clever. Some people might need to think he's a relentless optimist, when he's constantly paranoid about others' motives.
The one person he trusts unconditionally by now is Senku Ishigami, and that has been built up over time. Any temporary partner might quickly learn that Gen is constantly looking over his shoulder - and will be especially wary about anyone inside of his head.
Gen is especially triggered by a loss of control over his own actions, altered mental states where he could have a loss in control or judgement, or anything that will manipulate how he behaves. So ... have fun with that.
